FINTEL Frank Talk – DAY 4 of 10

THE FAULT IN YOUR COMPANY OF FRIENDS

==================================

Over the past 3 days, we have been discussing how you can take charge of your financial life by dumping your empty excuses and working on modifying your limiting belief system.

Another major issue responsible for people’s financial hardships is their company of friends – the people they hang out with or take advice from.

You’ve heard that birds of a feather flock together, right? You have also heard: “show me your friends and I will tell you who you are”. These statements have stood the test of time and they hold true today as they were 10 centuries ago.

“Who are your friends? They are either rubbing their poverty or rich mindset off on you” – Obot Essiet Jr.

If you want to change your financial status, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to vet your circle of friends, break negative relationships and create new ones. I am going to tell you why this is very necessary with the help of this analogy…

…it is much easier for Paul who is in a pit to pull Peter into the pit with him than it is for Peter to pull Paul out of the pit. The Law of Gravity is always at work, remember…

Jim Rohn had said that “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”.

In other words, if you spend most of your time with people who have a poverty mindset, you can’t be an exception. If five of your best friends are thieves or cultists, sooner or later, you will become one of them.

Want to be successful and happy? Surround yourself with successful and happy people.

This is why back then in elementary school, your parents will always advise you to choose your friends wisely because “bad communication corrupts good manners”. This advice should be more important to you now that you want to achieve financial freedom than ever.

The moment you “discover yourself” and what you want out of life, you are automatically operating at a ‘higher frequency’ than most of your former friends.

From that moment, they will begin to fight you because they don’t understand what is happening to you. For instance…

?They won’t understand why you are spending as much as $97 for an online Personal Development course by Brian Tracy instead of buying a new pair of designer Nike sneakers from Walmart.

?They won’t understand why you should spend N10,000 to register for a 5-hour Intensive care unit Entrepreneurial Seminar, instead of taking your girlfriend out to Oliver Twist Eatery.

?They won’t understand why you decide to buy a motivational book worth N1,500 by Stephen Covey instead of spending that money on binge drinking or partying over the weekend.

?They won’t understand why you are spending, no – investing your time to follow the #FINTELFrankTalk event by the FINTEL Coach instead of playing PES 17 or watching Premier League.

?They won’t understand…. (add yours)

And because they don’t understand, they will try to ridicule and discourage you. They will try to make you feel bad about your decision to work on your financial intelligence.

Unless you are someone with a very strong mind, you will not be able to withstand that pressure. Even if you could, you can only fight off evil for so long.

Therefore, the best thing you can do for yourself on this journey to financial freedom is to change your company of negative friends.

Begin to associate with people that are going towards the same direction as yourself; people you have an abundance mindset; optimistic people who radiate positive energy; people who earn the type of income you desire.

The Holy Book says that “iron sharpeneth iron”.

Learn from them… Spend time with them. Read the type of books they read… Go to the seminars they go and ask them to introduce you to their own circle of friends…

In other words, work hard to build a network of close-knit friends with a rich mindset and very soon, you will be more like them.

In this Information age, technology can make things much easier for you.

Since you spend most of your time online, your Instagram, Twitter and Facebook News feed is a very good place to start. Your life is a reflection of your Social Media news feed.

And how do you modify your news feed?

✔ Unfriend or unfollow those friends of yours you feel are not adding value to your life. You won’t see their posts anymore.

✔Like and follow Facebook pages of influencers and experts in the field you are into. You can set your notification settings to “See first” so that their updates will always show at the top of your news feed.

✔ Search for and join Facebook groups that encourage to become the best version of yourself; groups that add value to you; groups that share resources that will make you financially free.

SPECIAL BONUS: ??????

If you follow this event to the end, I will send a link to a special group here on Facebook where I will be sharing exclusive Financial Intelligence tips to my followers…

I also intend to host regular interviews with distinguished Entrepreneurs and experts, so you can learn from their experiences.

That will be a great place to make friends and network people of like minds.

???????????????

To wrap up, Simon Alexander On once suggested that in order to improve your (financial) life, you should do this ? and I quote:

“Take a moment to reflect on the following: Who are the people you spend the most time with? Do they elevate you or bring you down? Are they proactive go-getters exhibiting qualities that you admire or people who just sit and criticise? Do they motivate or drain you?”

The awesome thing about being around positive minded individuals, who have a habit of chasing their dreams and believe in taking responsibility for their lives, is that you’ll be inclined to grow in a positive direction as well.

They will have an impact on your thinking and consequently your behaviour. They will support you on your journey and move you towards inspired action.” ?
